Pro tip: lye bath rescued a pan I was about to pitch in the trash
Found a rusty #8 skillet at a garage sale for $5 in Tuscaloosa, figured it was just wall art material until I soaked it in a lye bath for 3 days and the gunk peeled off like a bad sunburn. Still needed 20 minutes with a chainmail scrubber and a reseason, but the thing cooks eggs like it's nonstick now. Has anyone else had a beat-up pan that came back way better than you expected?
