Pro tip: I quit scrubbing my cast iron with soap and a sponge, now I use a $3 plastic scraper and hot water
For about 3 years I washed my skillet with dish soap and a scrubby sponge every single time, and I could never figure out why the seasoning kept flaking off around the edges. My grandma watched me do it at her place in Toledo over Thanksgiving and just shook her head, then handed me one of those little plastic pan scrapers you get for like $3. Now I scrape the stuck bits off under hot running water, wipe it dry, and put it back on the stove for a minute, and the surface has stayed glassy since March. Has anyone else had luck with a scraper, or do you still use salt and a rag for the tough stuff?
