Overheard a guy at a flea market say he seasons his pans with bacon grease every time he cooks, no extra steps, and I finally stopped overcomplicating my own routine after 4 years.
I used to do the whole oven method with flaxseed oil and wait for hours, but since I started just wiping a thin layer after frying bacon like that guy said, my skillet hasn't looked this good since I bought it - has anyone else found a crazy simple fix that actually worked better than the fancy methods?

Oh man, you are so right about that. I was a total snob about using grapeseed oil and doing a million thin coats in the oven for hours. Then I forgot a pan once and just wiped bacon grease on it after making breakfast. That one pan is now my favorite. It's got this dark, slick coat that nothing sticks to. I actually think the bacon fat has some natural stuff in it that builds up better than plain vegetable oil. I do the same thing now with leftover chicken skin fat and it works just as well.

Heard a buddy of mine do the exact same thing after years of babying his cast iron with avocado oil rituals. @uma_mitchell83 is spot on about that bacon fat building up better, his pan ended up looking like a mirror after a few months. Keeps telling everyone to just cook bacon and wipe it down, that's it.
