My neighbor saw me scouring a rust spot with steel wool and hollered across the fence to stop
Last Saturday I was out back trying to save a skillet I'd left on the porch in the rain, and I was going at a rusty patch with steel wool like I always do. My neighbor Dave came over from his yard and asked me what I was doing, then pulled out a plastic scraper and a chunk of chain mail scrubber he keeps in his truck. He said the steel wool digs into the little pits and leaves fresh metal that just rusts again faster, and that a good scrub plus a light coat of oil after drying keeps the surface intact. I tried his way on the same pan and the patch stayed clean for the past two weeks, so now I'm second guessing how I've been treating my other pans. What do you all use for spot rust, or is it just a regular re-season for you?
