My cast iron turned 100 years old this month and I only paid $12 for it
I bought this pan at an estate sale in Grand Rapids 6 years ago for $12 and finally looked up the maker mark, turns out it was made in 1924 so it just crossed the century mark. It's the smoothest pan I own after 100 years of other people cooking on it, way better than anything I've seasoned myself. What's the oldest piece in your stack and does it cook better than your newer stuff?
That $12 estate sale find is such a score, I love that it was made in 1924 and still out-cooks everything new. Mine's a 1930s Wagner my grandma handed down and yeah, it beats my newer Lodge every time, the surface is just glassy from all those years of use. Old iron just hits different, you can't fake a hundred years of seasoning.
