Burned through my seasoning after one cornbread bake

I made cornbread in my 12 inch Lodge last Tuesday and it turned out fine, but when I went to wipe it out the seasoning came off in patches down to the bare iron. I usually do the potato skin method for new seasoning, has anyone else dealt with a full strip after a single sweet cornbread recipe?

Did your recipe have a lot of sugar in it? I had a buddy who made a sweet cornbread in his pan and the same thing happened to him. He said the sugar basically turned into glue and pulled his seasoning right off when he scrubbed it. He had to strip it down and start over with straight crisco.

Add to what matthew said - that sugar caramelizes into the pan and acts like a glue. That's your seasoning gone when you scrub it off.
