TIL that weird tack strip spacing can cost you half a day
Had a job in a 70s split level where the previous installer put the tack strips a full 3 inches from the wall instead of the standard half inch. Thought I could just work with it, but the carpet wouldn't stretch right and kept buckling. Ended up having to pull up all the old strips and reset them myself. What should have been a 4 hour install turned into an 8 hour nightmare. Anyone ever run into something this far off spec before?

Ever wonder if they were trying to hide a serious wall issue? That huge gap makes me think there might have been major water damage or rot along the baseboard they just didn't want to fix. A three inch buffer is crazy unless they were covering something up. You might have saved the next owner from a much bigger problem by redoing it right.
