That job in the old theater on 4th Street changed how I handle transitions.
The stage floor had a 3 inch drop into the orchestra pit. Boss said to just feather it out with padding. Felt wrong. I cut a custom wood ramp instead, glued it down, then stretched over it. The carpet still looks perfect a year later. Anyone else had to get creative with a big height change?

Good call on the ramp. Feathering padding always settles and creates a trip hazard. I use a router to bevel the wood edge so the carpet lays down smooth.

Reminds me of the time I tried to skip the router and just sand the edge. Looked fine for a week, then the carpet started pulling up like a bad toupee.
