Ripped out a whole room because a painter told me my seams were garbage
Guy said he could see every single seam under the light and told me to stop using a power stretcher like I'm wrestling a snake. Switched to a knee kicker for the final stretch and now my seams disappear completely. Anyone else have a customer spot something you missed and change your whole method?

That's rough, I've definitely been the painter who learned the hard way too.

You really think a knee kicker gives you better seams than a power stretcher? I've been doing this for years and I've never had a problem with visible seams using a power stretcher if you stretch correctly. Sounds like you might be overstretching or not working the carpet into the tack strip properly. A knee kicker doesn't give you the same even tension across a whole room, and I've seen guys end up with wavy carpets or pulled seams after a few months because the carpet relaxes. The painter might have just been used to a certain look under that specific lighting, not a universal rule. What makes you so sure your seams won't show up when the next customer turns on their overhead lights?
