Question about a tricky seam on a 1970s patterned carpet

That seam on the big geometric print in the Denver bungalow took me almost four hours to get right because the pattern repeat was off by a full inch, has anyone else found a good trick for lining up those old, irregular prints?

Ugh, those old pattern repeats are the worst. Spent a whole afternoon once just shifting a section back and forth by tiny amounts until it clicked.

Totally feel that. It's like when you're trying to line up wallpaper or tile in a bathroom, just nudging it a millimeter at a time. That tiny shift makes ALL the difference, but getting there is pure torture.
