Overheard a guy at the hardware store complaining about his knee pads

I was picking up some tack strips in Springfield last Tuesday and this older installer was telling his buddy his knees were shot. He said he'd been using the same cheap foam pads for fifteen years. It made me stop and check my own gear when I got back to the truck. I've been on the same pair of ProKnees for about three years now and they're still solid. How often do you all actually replace your knee pads, or do you wait for them to fall apart?

My uncle was a floor guy for forty years and retired with two bad knees. He swore by replacing his pads every single season, no matter what. I go by the rule of when the gel starts to feel flat or the straps get loose. That's usually around 18 months for me. Waiting for them to fall apart is how you end up like that guy in Springfield. Good gear is cheaper than a doctor.

Honestly that reminds me of the time my buddy tried to save money by stuffing his old pads with cut-up yoga mats. Tbh it worked for like a week before the whole thing just split open on the job.
