My stretch-in tool kept slipping on Berber carpet, wasted 3 hours figuring it out

I was wrestling with a Berber install last Thursday in a house in Phoenix and my stretch-in tool just kept losing grip. Turns out the rubber pad was worn down to almost nothing after 6 months of heavy use. I ended up just swapping it for my backup and it grabbed perfect, but that hour of fighting cost me the whole afternoon. Has anyone else had this happen with a specific brand of power stretcher?

Try a fresh rubber pad on the stretch-in before you blame the carpet itself, those things wear out faster than most people expect. Some of the off-brand pads are way too soft for Berber and just fold over under tension, so stick with genuine replacements for your model if you can. Id keep a spare pad in the truck just for loops like this, swapping one out beats fighting the kicker for an hour every time.
