My buddy Vinny told me to stretch carpet from the middle out, not the wall.
I spent like two hours on a living room in Austin trying it his way and ended up with ripples everywhere. Has anyone else had a coworker give them advice that just totally backfired?

Had a guy at the shop back in 09 tell me to use a staple gun instead of a tack strip for the last row near the wall. Said it was faster and nobody would ever notice. First time that carpet saw a vacuum cleaner the whole edge pulled up and looked like a dog had chewed on it. Had to rip it all out and start over on my own dime. Vinny probably meant well but that middle out thing sounds like a good way to end up with a floor that looks like a topographical map. Sometimes the old ways are the old ways for a reason.

Man, I actually read this thing online from some flooring blog that said working from the center out is fine for like glue down carpet, but for stretch in you gotta start at one wall and work across. Vinny probably got that mixed up in his head. Ripples are the worst, I feel your pain on that Austin job.
