Had a talk with a builder that changed how I look at seams

A builder I worked with a few weeks ago on a house in Oak Park told me he used to think seams were just about looks. He said he never worried about them until a homeowner complained about a seam splitting after 8 months. He realized the problem was how the carpet was stretched, not the tape or glue. That conversation hit different because I had been blaming materials for years. Now I spend an extra 5 minutes per room checking stretch direction and it has cut my callbacks by half. Has anyone else changed their method after a talk like that?

Checking stretch direction" - that's the golden nugget right there. Most people don't think past the tape.

Stretch direction is the thing most people skip, but its importance depends on the carpet type too. Some carpets with stiff backing actually need a different approach than just angling the stretch.
