Finally figured out why my seams were showing after a few months...
I kept getting visible seams on jobs in Phoenix until I realized I wasn't spending enough time with the knee kicker on the second pass. Has anyone else had this issue with thicker carpets?

Question if it's really that serious though. I've been doing carpet for 12 years and never had seams show up that weren't from bad glue or not butting the edges tight enough in the first place. @lee.casey I think you might be overthinking the second pass thing, a lot of times it's just the installer not cutting the seam straight or letting the backing relax before taping.

Finally figured out why my seams were showing" - man, that brings back memories. I spent a whole weekend redoing my living room carpet and kept getting these little gaps near the doorways. Turned out I was rushing through the second pass because my back was killing me from crawling around. I started taking breaks every 45 minutes and that actually helped me focus on the kicker work. The carpet was one of those thicker berber styles, definitely needed extra time with the kicker on that second go-round.
