Split a 16 foot treated board right at the knot, learned to check the grain first
Last Thursday I was framing a deck out in Beaverton and cut a 16 foot treated 2x6 right through a knot at the 8 foot mark, and it split clean down the middle before I even got it up on the joists. I should have flipped it and read the grain before making that cut, so now I mark knots with a pencil first and trim past them. How do you all decide when a board is worth cutting around versus just grabbing another one off the stack?
