Saw a framing crew on a job site near Columbus using metal studs instead of wood - is that the future or just a fad?

I was driving through Columbus last week and stopped to watch a crew putting up a four-story apartment building. Every single wall was metal studs, no wood at all. The foreman said they finished the framing in 5 days instead of 8 because everything is pre-cut and doesn't need to be sorted for warp. But I've always thought wood is easier to adjust on the fly when the plans don't match the actual site. Has anyone else run into this debate on their own jobs, or is metal just a regional thing?

Five days instead of eight on a four-story building? That's wild. Metal must really speed things up if they're getting that kind of time savings even with the pre-cutting.
