Question about cutting crown molding flat
An old timer on a job site in Tacoma told me I was making it too hard. I was trying to cut crown molding in place, holding it against the saw fence like you would on the wall. He walked over and said, 'Kid, lay it flat on the table. Mark your angles on the back and cut it like a regular board.' I argued at first, but after messing up three pieces, I tried his way. It was way easier to see the line and get a clean cut. Now I only cut it flat unless it's a really weird corner. Has anyone else had a boss or coworker give you a tip that felt wrong but actually worked better?

Took me way too long to learn that trick myself... I was convinced the fancy way was the only "right" way. Sometimes the old guys just know how to get it done without all the fuss.
