Question about a miter saw fence that just gave out on me

I was cutting some 2x4 pine for a deck frame yesterday when the aluminum fence on my 12-inch sliding miter saw cracked right at the bolt hole. It was an older model, maybe 8 years old, and the whole piece just folded. I had to clamp a straight board to the base as a temp fence to finish the day. Has anyone had a fence fail like that, and is it worth trying to find a replacement part or just time for a new saw?

Read about that happening with older aluminum fences under heavy use. The metal gets fatigued and just gives out. Might be a sign to start looking at newer models.

Was it a clean break? You might be able to weld it if the metal isn't too thin.
