My miter saw blade guard jammed halfway through a cut on a big trim job
It happened yesterday while I was installing crown molding in a house in Oak Park. I was about halfway through a long cut on a 12-foot piece when the guard just stopped retracting. I had to shut it off, unplug it, and use a flathead screwdriver to carefully pry it back so I could finish the cut by hand. It threw my whole rhythm off for the afternoon. Has anyone else had this happen with a DeWalt DWS780, and is there a quick fix or should I just replace the guard assembly?

Honestly I'd skip trying to fix it on the job site. That guard sticking is usually because sawdust and pitch have gummed up the spring mechanism inside. You can clean it with some mineral spirits and a brush, but you really gotta take the whole guard off to do it right. Trying to force it with a screwdriver is just asking for trouble next time.

That guard jam on your DeWalt is the universe's way of saying it's time for a coffee break, right?
