My framing nailer jammed 8 times on a single deck job

Started a deck repair in Overland Park last Thursday and my old Paslode just would not cooperate. I cleaned the magazine twice, swapped the battery, even tried different nails from a fresh box. Turned out the piston was getting stuck from buildup I hadn't scraped off in over a year. Have any of you dealt with a similar jam issue that turned out to be something dumb and simple?
