Finally caught my mistake on stair stringers after 12 years
I was laying out a set of stringers for a deck last Thursday and something just clicked. I always marked my rise and run starting from the top of the board, then cut from there. Turns out I should've been subtracting the tread thickness first, because every set of stairs I've built sat a little high. The homeowner's son is a framer and he watched me for like two minutes before he pointed it out. Has anyone else had that moment where someone half your age teaches you something basic?
