A near miss with a nail gun on a job in Boise changed my safety routine

I was working on a roof and my hose got snagged, causing the gun to fire a 16d nail right past my leg. Now I always double check the hose path and keep my free hand clear before pulling the trigger. Anyone else have a close call that made them change a habit?

Ever notice how we only really learn safety rules after something almost goes wrong? Your story about the nail gun reminds me of how people treat ladders or even just driving. We all know the basic rules, but it takes that one heart-stopping moment to make them stick. It's like our brains need a real scare to switch from knowing something to actually doing it. Makes you wonder why we can't just skip the scary part and learn from other people's close calls instead.

Glad you're okay, and @fiona130 is right about how it takes a scare.
