Visited a career fair at my old college and noticed something odd about the recruiters
I went back to my community college's career fair last week. Half the recruiters were from staffing agencies, not actual companies. They wanted me to sign up for temp work on the spot. The other half were from local shops asking for 5 years experience for entry level roles. Which side is more honest about what they offer?

Figured the staffing agencies were the more upfront ones until I talked to a couple of them. One recruiter straight up told me the "temp to perm" jobs were mostly just temp with no real chance of getting hired full time. Another wanted me to pay for a background check before they'd even submit my resume. Changed my mind right there. The local shops asking for 5 years experience at least weren't trying to take my money.

Did they really ask you to pay for a background check? That's a huge red flag, I've never heard of a legit agency charging for that. Honestly, the whole "temp to perm" thing is a joke 90% of the time, they just want to keep you on the hook for cheap labor.
