Tried volunteering for a lateral transfer and it totally backfired
I put in for a move to a different department at my company in Phoenix, thinking it'd show initiative and get me out of a rut. Instead, my boss pulled me aside and said I looked disloyal, and now I'm stuck with the worst project schedules. Has anyone else dealt with that kind of reaction from management?

Used to be all about "pursue your goals" and "companies want go-getters" until I got burned the same way. Put in for a lateral to Dallas years ago, boss acted like I was plotting a mutiny. Next thing I know, I'm stuck training the new hire that replaced my old buddy on the team, and my review mentioned "lack of commitment." Kinda makes you wonder why they even post internal jobs if they don't want people to apply, right?

Right on, the "lack of commitment" bit. I put in for a lateral a few years ago, got called into my manager's office and all I could think was "well, at least I didn't also ask for a raise." Now I'm the go-to guy for every last-minute project nobody else wants. Guess that's what I get for showing initiative, huh.
