Tried networking at a conference with a fake job title and got three serious offers

I put 'Chief Chaos Officer' on my name tag at the Denver Tech Summit last month just to be funny, and ended up in tense meetings with two VPs who wanted to hire me for strategy roles, so uh, be careful with your made-up LinkedIn tags.

Wait, you're telling me they didn't even question it at all? Like someone in a suit just looked at "Chief Chaos Officer" and thought "yeah that sounds legit, let's bring them in"? That's wild lol. I figured they would have at least laughed or something. Did you actually have to sit there and make up strategy stuff on the spot or did they just buy whatever you said?

Man, I gotta push back a little on that, @rileyl67. I don't think it's that wild at all. People in those conferences see a hundred boring titles a day, so something like "Chief Chaos Officer" probably just sounded fresh and bold to them. They're not sitting there checking your resume against a government database, they're looking for energy and someone who can think on their feet. Plus, half those VPs are probably just as clueless with their own made up job titles, so they don't question it. You got offers because you talked like you knew what you were doing, and honestly that's way more important than a fancy title in my book. It's not about tricking them, it's about showing that you can handle whatever gets thrown at you.
