Stable paycheck vs my own shop, I picked wrong for 3 years
I spent 3 years stuck at a warehouse gig in Cleveland, 42k a year, safe but dead inside. I finally left to do light carpentry on my own, and the first two months were brutal, zero income and my truck broke down twice. But now at month 8 I'm pulling in about 55k and I actually look forward to Monday. What I wanna ask is, how do you all handle the slow months without falling back into panic mode? Has anyone else made this jump and regretted it later?
Whoa, wait, you're at 55k already after just 8 months and you still panic about slow months? That's like winning the lottery and worrying about the price of gas. I mean, I get it, the feast or famine thing is real, but you went from 42k and hating your life to 55k and being happy. That math already works out. Most guys I know who make that jump are still eating ramen at month 8, not pulling in 13k more than their old salary.
