My old boss told me to stop taking notes in meetings and just listen. Was he right?

He said writing stuff down made me miss the real discussion. So I tried it for a month and I did catch more subtle things, but then I forgot two deadlines and looked bad. Has anyone else tried giving up notes and had it work out?

Forgot my own coffee order once while taking notes, so I just nod and pray now.

Yeah nodding and praying is basically my whole note taking strategy at this point. I used to actually write stuff down but then I'd lose the paper or forget where I put it. Now I just nod a lot and hope my brain catches up later. Works maybe 40 percent of the time.
