I compared two ways to handle performance reviews and one was WAY better

Last month I had my quarterly review at my job in Austin and I noticed a MASSIVE difference between how I prepared for it versus how my coworker Sara did. She went in with a list of everything she DID wrong and basically apologized for 20 minutes. I spent 3 hours the night before writing down specific wins with numbers like "increased lead response time by 15 percent" and "saved the team 40 hours on that database cleanup." My manager actually turned our meeting into a planning session for next quarter because he saw I was on top of things. Sara got put on a performance plan. Whatever you do, track your accomplishments week by week in a simple note file. Has anybody else seen this happen where how you present yourself totally changes the outcome of a review?

Feel you on this, and @perez.thea makes a really good point too but glad you dodged that bullet.

And her BOSS should have been tracking her wins too, that's the real failure here.
