Got promoted after I started tracking my wins weekly

I kept getting overlooked for raises at my accounting job in Denver, so I started keeping a simple list of every client problem I solved and sent it to my boss each Friday. After 4 months of doing this, she called me in and said my "measurable contributions" made the promotion case easy for her. Has anyone else tried something like this and seen it work better than just hoping your work speaks for itself?

That reminds me of when my brother started timing how fast he could finish his landscaping jobs and sent his boss a daily log. He was just trying to prove he wasn't slacking off in the heat. Boss ended up using those numbers to bid on bigger contracts and my brother got a crew lead position out of it. Sometimes you gotta force people to see the data right in front of them.
