Got offered a $4/hr raise to stay at a job I hated, and I said no
So about 7 months ago my boss pulled me aside at the end of my shift and said they'd bump me from $16 to $20 an hour if I stuck around another year. The catch was I'd have to drop my Tuesday classes, which is the only day the local community college runs the bookkeeping cert I was chasing. I sat in my car in the parking lot for like 20 minutes doing math on a napkin, and the raise only came out to around $330 a month after taxes. I turned it down, finished the cert in April, and just started at a small accounting office for $21 with normal hours. My old coworker took the deal and he's still closing every night by himself. Did anyone else here walk away from easy money for a slower payoff?
Turned down a night shift gig that paid $3 more an hour because it would've killed my weekends with my kid. Took me two years to get back to that rate but I'd do it again.
