The critique that made me ditch my no-tape box fort rule

I used to swear by friction-fit forts, no tape at all, just boxes wedged into each other. Last month my kid's friend said 'this ceiling keeps dropping on me' and I got defensive, but then I counted 11 collapses in a 3 hour session. So I finally tried the L-tab method where you cut flaps and lock them through slots, plus a bit of duct tape on the corners. Now my two story tower with a 4 foot bridge has stayed up for 6 days straight, even with the cat sleeping on top. I still think tape is overused for small stuff, but for anything over 3 feet tall, it's honestly necessary. Anyone else had a build fail hard enough to flip their whole approach?

The cat sleeping on top is the real stress test, if that thing holds then you're basically a certified engineer now. My builds used to collapse if I sneezed within 5 feet, so I respect the tape awakening.
