Just found out my local hardware store gives away free box scraps on Tuesdays
I was gonna drop $30 on new boxes from U-Haul for my next fort build, but the guy at Ace Hardware said they recycle their shipments every Tuesday morning. I swung by and grabbed 12 huge boxes for nothing. Has anyone else scored free supplies like that?

Did you ask them or did they just have a sign up? I've been too shy to ask places but now I'm thinking I should just try it. My local grocery store has a whole recycling area in the back where they let me grab cardboard from the bailer once. Felt like a hero hauling it out, but I had to sort through a lot of wet stuff to find the good ones.

That's such a great find, seriously. Moving boxes are one of those things you just never think to ask about, but they're everywhere in the back of stores. I've gotten nice free lumber scraps from a construction site once, just by asking the foreman if I could take the cut-offs. It feels like winning the lottery when you're building something and don't have to spend a dime on materials. Makes you wonder how much good stuff just gets thrown out every day that people would happily take for free.
