Warning: My cheap inflatable sleeping pad failed at 2am in the rain

I was out near Big Sur last weekend and around 2 in the morning I woke up on the ground. My sleeping pad had a slow leak that finally gave out. I spent the next hour trying to patch it with a repair kit I had, but the seam was split too bad. Ended up sleeping on a pile of clothes and a folded tarp, which was rough. Now I'm looking at replacing it but I'm not sure if I should go with a self-inflating foam pad or just pay more for a durable air pad. Has anyone else had a pad fail like that and found a brand that actually holds up?

Dude that sucks! My buddy had the exact same thing happen with some random Amazon pad last year, totally blew out at the worst time. I switched to a Therm-a-Rest self inflating foam pad after that and honestly its been way more reliable. Not as cushy as an air pad but you wont wake up on the ground. Just get the foam one, save yourself the misery.

Yeah, "not as cushy" is an understatement, your mileage may vary on comfort level for sure.
