Replaced my old tent poles after a nasty storm in the Smokies

Camped at Elkmont campground in the Smokies last October and a sudden windstorm snapped two of my aluminum tent poles at 3am. Had to pack up in the dark and drive down the mountain to find a hotel. That experience convinced me to swap my old poles for a set of DAC poles I found online. Anyone else upgraded their tent after a similar failure?

That's a ROUGH way to learn that lesson, having to pack up in the dark like that. DAC poles are a solid upgrade, they really hold up in nasty weather. Glad you got your kit sorted after that nightmare.

Man, that's brutal. Getting hit by a storm at 3am is no joke, especially when you're in the Smokies and have to navigate out of there in the dark. I had a similar thing happen once with a cheap pole sleeve that just ripped clean through during a windstorm. Nothing worse than your shelter failing on you in the middle of the night. Glad those DAC poles worked out for you, that kind of upgrade makes a world of difference when the weather turns nasty.
