I never bothered with a footprint for my tent, big mistake.
Woke up to a soaked sleeping bag from ground moisture seeping through. Now I always use one, it's worth the extra weight.

Ever think about what your tent floor is made of? Mine's pretty tough, so I skip the footprint and just use a cheap blue tarp cut to size. It keeps the moisture off and is way lighter than the branded footprint, plus it's easier to clean.

Wait, you actually use a cheap blue tarp? That's kinda shocking because I've always heard they tear easy on rough ground. My cousin tried that once and his tent floor got soaked when the tarp ripped. But hey, if it works for you, that's cool. I guess saving weight and money is a big plus, but I'd be too worried about it failing in the middle of the night. Plus, cleaning might be easier, but I feel like the branded footprints are made to fit perfectly without bunching up.
