DAE remember when camp stoves had REAL simmer control? My 2 year old one made me a better cook than any $200 upgrade
I bought a cheap two burner camp stove back in 2021 for a trip to Moab and it had this amazing low flame you could actually dial in. Fast forward to last month, I grabbed a newer model from the same company because my old one finally died, and the lowest setting is basically a blowtorch. I tried making rice and eggs on our trip to Shenandoah and everything burned in like 3 minutes flat. I ended up using my buddy's 15 year old Coleman and it simmered perfectly, so it's not me. Turns out the new stoves switched to a different valve design to save a few bucks and nobody talks about it in reviews. I'm now hunting for a used stove from 2005 or earlier on Facebook Marketplace, and I don't care how ugly it looks. Has anyone else noticed new camp stoves run way hotter on low, or did I just get a lemon?
