Can we talk about going from a Coleman lantern to a rechargeable one at Joshua Tree
I used to haul the old white gas lantern on every trip and mess with the pump and mantles, but a buddy lent me a $40 USB rechargeable light for a weekend at Joshua Tree and I never looked back. The thing runs 9 hours on low and I don't have to worry about fuel or broken glass. Anyone else ditch their gas lantern, or do you still swear by the hiss and the warm glow?
That rechargeable light dies in the cold though, and I have watched cheap ones quit on a 30 degree night while my old Coleman just kept on hissing. There is also something about the pump and the mantles that makes the whole trip feel like real camping instead of glamping with a phone charger. A dead battery in the middle of the desert is way worse than a little spilled fuel.
