Tried fixing a sticky shutter with a drop of oil versus a proper clean. Guess which one worked.
Had a Pentax K1000 come in last month with a classic slow shutter. Customer said they'd put a tiny bit of sewing machine oil on the blades. The whole thing was a gummy mess. I spent two hours cleaning that off with pure isopropyl and cotton swabs. After a full disassembly and clean, it fired perfectly at all speeds. The oil trick just gums up everything in the long run. Anyone else have a 'quick fix' horror story that doubled your work?

Oh man, that reminds me of a friend who tried to fix a squeaky door hinge with cooking spray. The smell was awful and it attracted every bit of dust in the house, total mess lol.

My old roommate tried to fix a wobbly ceiling fan with duct tape. It held for a week before the whole thing came crashing down at 3am. People always go for the fast fix with whatever's on hand, like super glue on a shoe sole or toothpaste in a wall hole. It never holds, and you're left with a bigger, stickier problem than you started with.
