That $60 lens cleaning kit from Japan was a total waste
Bought this fancy ultrasonic cleaning set from Kyoto last year for $60 and it scratched my front element on the first try. Has anyone else had bad luck with those ultrasonic cleaners for delicate glass?

Funny thing, I actually had the opposite experience with mine. Got a similar kit last year and it's been great for my vintage lenses, never had an issue with scratches. The trick is making sure the basket doesn't let the glass touch the bottom or sides during the cycle. Maybe they used the wrong solution or didn't let it degas first before putting the lens in? Lots of people skip that step and it causes problems. Sorry yours got damaged though, that's a bummer for sure.

Dunking straight into the bath without letting the solution sit for 10 minutes first is usually where things go wrong. I let mine degas before putting the lens in and never had any fogging or etching problems. The basket trick is key too, I zip tied mine to make sure nothing shifted during the cycle.
