Hit 200 shutter replacements on vintage SLRs last month and it changed how I work

I keep a log of every repair I do. Simple notebook on the bench. Last month I hit 200 shutter replacements on vintage SLRs. Mostly Canon FTbs and Minoltas. That number surprised me. I started thinking about how much time I waste on the same problem. Same sticky shutter blades. Same slow speeds. I should have a system by now. Instead I still break down each one like its new. Does anyone else keep stats on their repairs? Do you use that data to speed things up?

I mean that 'should have a system by now' thing really hit me. It's like how I always reposition my phone charger cable at night instead of just buying a longer one once and for all.

Man, that analogy really got me too. I used to be the opposite, I'd buy a 10 foot cable and just deal with it dangling everywhere thinking I was being smart. But now I see I was just avoiding the small fix and living with a bigger annoyance. It's like your brain tricks you into thinking the short term workaround is easier than the one time solution, when really you waste way more time and frustration in the long run. This whole thread is making me look at a lot of my little daily shortcuts differently now.
