Found out the Nikon F2 has around 1,400 parts, which explains why I'm still sorting screws
I was reading through an old service manual reprint I picked up at a swap meet in Akron and it listed the parts count for a Nikon F2 at somewhere near 1,400 pieces. I've had one torn down on my bench for 3 days now and I keep finding small springs I didn't know existed. For anyone who has done a full rebuild on one of these, do you sort parts into trays by section or just dump everything and hope for the best?
Sorting by section is the only way I stay sane on these. I use a cheap plastic ice cube tray and label each slot with tape, one for the shutter, one for the mirror box, one for the finder, and so on. When you dump 1,400 parts in one pile you end up with three mystery springs and a washer that could honestly go anywhere, and then it's off to eBay hunting a donor body. The service manual's exploded views are gold for this, just follow the order they show and bag each sub-assembly separate.
