Feedback from a retired tech fixed my shutter cleaning routine

I had a guy who used to work at a Nikon service center stop by my bench last week. He watched me clean a shutter curtain and then told me I was using way too much solvent. He said I should only moisten the swab until it's damp, not wet, and let it dry for 10 seconds before touching the curtain. I tried his method on a beat up Canon F-1 and it worked way better, no streaks at all. I had been soaking the swab for years like an idiot. Anyone else get a tip from an old timer that totally changed your workflow?

Wait, you were soaking the swab that whole time? I can't believe you got away with that on any camera at all, let alone for years. That's wild, man, I always thought you barely want any solvent on there or you're asking for trouble.

Friend of mine tried that on a Sony. Fried the sensor.
