DAE change their mind on ultrasonic cleaners after hitting 200 dirty lens rings?
I used to think ultrasonic cleaners were overkill for anything short of a full teardown, but I just hit my 200th lens ring cleaned in it and the difference is wild. A single 3 minute cycle at 40kHz got a 1970s Nikkor ring spotless that I used to spend 20 minutes scrubbing by hand. Anyone else run one, and what solution ratio are you using for brass vs aluminum?
Read a long thread on a watch repair forum where a guy ran tests on brass vs aluminum and he said the ammonia in most jewelry solutions will straight up eat aluminum if you leave it too long. His ratio for brass was about 10:1 water to cleaner, but for aluminum he dropped it way down and kept cycles under 2 minutes. Also heard heat matters more than people give it credit for, like 40C makes a bigger diff than bumping the frequency.
