The day my coax end kept failing on a hot roof
I was on a roof in Phoenix last July, 110 degrees, and my third compression fitting in a row just wouldn't hold. Turns out I wasn't stripping the jacket back enough, like a full quarter inch more than I thought. The heat made the cable soft and I think that hid the issue for months. How did you figure out your go-to strip length for RG6?

Lol sounds like Phoenix was trying to cook you AND your cable at the same time. My go to trick was just marking the stripper tool with a sharpie line after one too many fails on a cold day. Now I always strip a hair extra just to be safe, cause nothing ruins your day like watching a fitting slide off right after you finally get it on lmao.

Watching a fitting slide off after all that work is basically a right of passage in this trade isn't it @michaelw26? I started just stripping extra and then trimming the jacket back instead of trying to be perfect on the first go. Better to have too much exposed than not enough if you ask me.
