Spent hours on a flickering picture until I checked the attic vent

I was stuck on a job where the TV signal kept dropping, and the homeowner was breathing down my neck. After redoing all the connections, I found the cable was tucked right next to a metal duct that shook when the fan turned on. How do you guys handle random interference from stuff like that?

Honestly, calling interference 'drives me nuts' seems a bit much for just a flickering picture.

Seriously, interference like that drives me nuts. I mean, I had a call where a microwave was killing the signal every time it ran. Or like, when cables are too close to power lines, you get the same flickering. Maybe try using shielded cable or just moving it a few inches away. Idk, it's always some random thing you don't think about at first. You just have to rule out all the odd stuff, you know?
