Noticed a neighbor's coax junction box was completely upside down

I was swapping out a splitter for a buddy last week and saw his neighbor's box mounted with the F connectors pointing up. Rainwater pools right in the threads that way, I've seen it corrode connections in under a year. He said his cable company did it that way, which explains some of his signal issues. Has anyone else had to fix installs where the box orientation was just ignored?

Point the connectors up and you will get water sitting in there, no doubt about it. Gravity works the same way everywhere, so I don't see how flipping it upside down helps anything. Rain splashes up from the ground anyway, plus morning dew gets on everything. Your buddy's signal issues probably started months ago with that box mounted wrong. Cable companies rush through installs all the time and leave stuff like this for homeowners to clean up. Flip that box right side up and see if his connection stops dropping out.

And here I thought my terrible decision to install my own cable box was the only thing making my internet drop out every time it drizzles. Guess I should have read the manual instead of just pointing the connectors wherever felt right, which in my case was basically at the sky. Now every rainstorm probably turns my cable box into a little birdbath, and I've been blaming the squirrels this whole time. At least now I know why my Zoom calls sound like I'm calling in from a submarine.
