Appreciation post: that one customer who actually pointed out my bad splices
Had a retired cable guy flag me down after a job in Arlington last month and show me how my weatherproofing was all wrong on the ground block. I used to just wrap tape however, now I do a proper double wrap and seal with silicone grease. Anyone else get feedback that actually stuck?

That bit about the tape got me. I did the same thing for years, just wrapping it up sloppy and calling it good. Then a storm last spring flooded my box and I had to redo everything myself. Now I'm one of those weirdos who carries a little tub of silicone grease in my truck.

Oh man, that tape thing is real. I did the same for years, just slapping it on and hoping for the best. It works until it doesn't, and then you're dealing with a mess. The silicone grease is the real game changer though. I started using it after a guy at a trade show told me it keeps the moisture from wicking down the jacket. Now I put a dab in every compression connector too, just for good measure. It's one of those little things that makes a huge difference when you're out in the rain.
