Unpopular opinion: My town's new building codes are killing custom cabinet designs.
The inspectors are so strict now that every unique detail gets flagged. It feels like we're just putting together boxes instead of making real furniture.

My old neighborhood had historic district rules that banned any new paint colors. The whole street ended up looking like a row of gray primer samples. Sometimes codes just flatten everything interesting.

Historic districts don't have to be dull if you know where to push back. In my case, we asked for accent colors on shutters and doors, which they okayed. It kept the historic feel but added some much needed character.
