Tried that new dust collection port adapter last week and it was a disaster
My shop vac kept clogging on the cabinet door sanding dust so I bought that $15 port adapter that's supposed to fit every hose. Turns out it created a weird air gap that actually made the suction worse than before. Has anyone found a reliable way to adapt a 2.5 inch hose to a 4 inch port without losing all the pickup?

Taping the gap with duct tape before connecting fixed that exact air leak problem for me. Works like a charm if you wrap it tight enough to seal completely.

Ha, duct tape is just covering up the real problem though. That air gap is there for a reason - probably the adapter was designed for a different size hose and the tape is just making a temporary seal that'll fail the second you move the hose around. I tried that exact trick and the tape peeled off after 20 minutes, then I had dust everywhere. Better off just spending the money on a proper stepped fitting that actually matches both sizes.
